West Ham United: Fans don’t have fond memories of Lee Bowyer

Many West Ham fans are weighing in on a debate started by fan page American Hammers Network on Twitter as they are trying to choose a best eleven to have represented the club in the Premier League.

The current two players they have battling for one spot in the centre of midfield are Michael Carrick and Lee Bowyer. Carrick featured 149 times for the Irons, scoring six times and providing three assists, per Transfermarkt, from 1999 to 2004, and also made his debut for England in 2001.

Meanwhile, Bowyer made 60 appearances for the East London side, scoring five goals and contributing with three assists from 2002-2008 and made one appearance for the Three Lions in 2002, per Transfermarkt.

Both had successful spells at the club and were in the side to provide more than just goals and assists. To even be up for debate in a fan eleven highlights the quality they had, but some of the West Ham faithful are surprised at Bowyer’s inclusion as one said “Who on earth has voted Bowyer???”
