West Ham United have re-signed goalkeeper Darren Randolph from Championship outfit Middlesbrough (via @WestHam).
The 32-year-old left the Hammers to join Boro in the summer of 2017, but has now returned to the east London club and has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal (whufc.com).
He enjoyed a successful period on Teeside, playing 112 times and keeping 39 clean sheets for Middlesbrough (Transfermarkt) whilst also being named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year and as Boro’s Player of the Year in 2019 (whufc.com).
The Republic of Ireland international has admitted that he is happy to be back at West Ham though, telling their official website: “I had two great years at the Club previously and still have a lot of friends here, so I had no hesitation in coming back.”
However, it seems that quite a few Hammers fans aren’t as happy to see Randolph back at the club. Indeed, several believe it isn’t a step in the right direction signing a player they let go a few years ago and have slated owners David Gold and David Sullivan for a lack of ambition.
Here is what some supporters said about it on Twitter…

Delighted?! You’re a joke! How can you be delighted at signing a goalkeeper from the championship, who wasn’t good enough four years ago! Embarrassment

So, West Ham now have the manager they told wasn’t good enough signing the goalie we told wasn’t good enough.
Our owners would ask for a receipt if they were shopping at a bootsale!#GSBO #whu @DaveWalkerWHU

West Ham signing a goalkeeper they’ve previously let go, to replace two injured incumbents and him immediately being an injury doubt for the next game is absolute peak Sullivanism.
