Ukraine qualified for the Euros last night with a stunning 2-1 win over Portugal, and West Ham fans have hailed the star of the show.
After Ukraine’s upset of Portugal, allowing them to qualify for the tournament next summer, a few Premier League stars were on show – but none of them stood out more than Andriy Yarmolenko.
The West Ham striker bagged a crucial second goal for his nation and it turned out to be just enough for the Ukrainians to hang on to the win. Indeed, it was his overall impact on the game that looked most impressive, with WhoScored noting the fact the 29-year-old took the most shots out of anyone in the home side and also had the third most touches.
Since returning, he has established himself as somewhat of a fan favourite at the London Stadium (noted by Garth Crooks), scoring three goals in six appearances already this season and looking like the only way is up – especially after a previous long injury absence.
Yarmolenko calmly slotted the ball past Rui Patricio after a brilliant cross from the left-hand side availed the entirety of Portugal’s backline.
Following a night to remember in Kiev, Yarmolenko has since been getting nothing but love from the Hammers crowd back home:
37 goals for Ukraine shows exactly how good Yarmolenko is in front of goal. After a long injury absence, we are finaly starting to see how effective he is in terms of goalscoring for West Ham. Class player.

So many people wrote Yarmolenko off when he took a few games to get back up to speed with PL football after missing so many months last season; people now seeing exactly what he brings to the team. Huge season ahead if he carries on how he started. Great asset to the club.
