West Ham United are actively considering trying to sign midfielder Abdoulaye Toure from French side Nantes this month, that is according to a report from France Football.
However, it is suggested that the Ligue 1 outfit would want to sell the 25-year-old for €15 million (£12.7m) whereas the Hammers would favour an initial loan move which featured an option to buy.
Toure is predominantly a defensive-minded midfielder and has been a regular for Nantes this season, starting in 19 of their 20 league matches (Transfermarkt). He has been playing well too and, on average he wins six duels per game, has a passing accuracy of 85% and is dribbled past on average 0.8 times per game. Added to that, he has also chipped in with three goals and has created two big chances (SofaScore).
West Ham are certainly short of midfielders. Mark Noble and Declan Rice have featured regularly but their only back-up options are Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere who have clocked up just 288 minutes on the pitch in the league between them (Transfermarkt).
However whilst some fans would like to see Toure be signed, quite a few have taken issue with the fact that the club’s owners aren’t prepared to buy the player and instead only want to do a loan deal. Indeed many think that David Gold and David Sullivan are being too tight with their money and that their efforts in the transfer market are a bit of a joke.
Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…

We are like a club who either take lease hire or buy back used cars we sold. We are becoming a joke. Moyes was useless first time and no better second. ⚒⚒

David Sullivan would ask to take a bite out of a snickers before buying the whole bar. And if he did buy it he would ask to pay 3p a week for 25 weeks
