It was a famous night for Wolves as they put Espanyol to the sword with a rampant 4-0 win at Molineux in the Europa League but a tweet from Henry Winter actually saw fans of Midlands rivals Aston Villa criticise the home crowd.
Indeed, the Times journalist reported that sections of the home support were singing ‘you’re going down with the Villa’ at their Spanish counterparts last night, prompting Villains online to suggest their rivals were ‘obsessed’ with the fate of their club, who are currently in a relegation battle.
3-0 now, Jota again. Wolves rampant. Espanyol outclassed. “You’re going down with the Villa,” Molineux serenades the visiting fans. #WOLESP #wwfc #wolves

A Diogo Jota hat-trick and a Ruben Neves screamer sent Wolves fans into dreamland and perhaps chants such as this one are a part of being a football fan – poking fun at rivals – but some Villa fans online did seem to take exception to it. The two clubs will meet in April at Villa Park six months after the Old Gold won 2-0 on home turf and, given current form, there’s every chance Dean Smith’s side will need a result in their battle to beat the drop.
With all that in mind, here’s a look at how some of these fans reacted to Winter’s tweet.
They just aspire to be as big as us, we obviously matter, I'll take it as a massive compliment that they choose to sing about us

Still trying to invent a rivalry then. Embarrassing.
