Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans bemoan update concerning Olympiacos tie

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were bemoaning the latest news about their Europa League tie with Olympiacos this Thursday.

The club confirmed that the Greek government and UEFA are making the two clubs play their fixture behind closed doors due to the increasing coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the country. It will be a bitter blow to the supporters, who would’ve been watching Wolves play in the last-16 of a European competition for the first time since the 1971-72 UEFA Cup (via BBC).

One fan called the decision ‘ridiculous’.

The Midlands outfit are having a brilliant season in Europe’s second-tier competition and have scored the joint-most goals this campaign.

However, they come up against an Olympiacos side, who saw off Arsenal after extra-time in the Round of 32. Fans were left lashing out especially due to the fact the decision has been taken just a few days before the game is supposed to take place. Here are a selection of tweets:
