Plenty of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have lauded former player Fernando Gomez after the Midlands club posted a throwback goal of his on their official Twitter page.
The clip showed the ex-central midfield player score an outrageous strike from outside of the box against Stockport County at Molineux back on the 31st August 1998. After some good build-up play, the ball eventually fell to Gomez in the middle of the park, where he first controlled it on his chest before unleashing a venomous volley into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with little chance of keeping it out.

Unfortunately, the Wanderers could not win the game as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw. It was the man from Valencia’s only season in England, and WWFC have challenged supporters to name the team he was part of, which can be accessed on their official website.
These fans lauded their former ace, with one describing him as a ‘Rolls Royce’:
Would fit into today’s squad he was that good. Vision and execution of pass were top class

Great player. Also looked just like the guy who used to clean the windows round Tettenhall way.

Christ he would have fit into this side perfectly. I always edited the database of CM3 to make him 21 and built my side around him and Keane. Wonderful player.
