Kevin Phillips has given his reaction to the news that Wolves have now given Pedro Neto a new deal.

The Lowdown: New contract

The Midlands club confirmed Neto's new contract last Wednesday, which will now keep him at Molineux until 2027.

The Portugal international took to Twitter after the announcement to give his reaction to the news, and it is safe to say that he was very happy with it.

The 22 year-old has been slowly working his way back to fitness in the last few weeks, starting once in the Premier League and adding four appearances from the bench.

The Latest: Phillips reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, former Premier League striker Phillips, who also works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has since reacted to the update, claiming that it is 'great news' for Bruno Lage's team:

“He’s a quality player.

“They were obviously gutted when he got injured. He’s a player who can turn a game with his energy, his quality and he can score a goal.

“Naturally any team would have missed him. To get him back and to get him on a new deal is good news.

“Lage has done a great job since he’s gone in there. They play some good stuff with a high press and good energy and he can be a big part of that.

“Yes, it’s great news for Wolves.”

The Verdict: Needed

Even though Neto has missed a lot of his Wanderers career through injury, to tie him down to a long-term deal was certainly needed.

Before coming back this season, he had scored ten goals and made a further 11 assists in total over all competitions across the last two terms (Transfermarkt), and at just 22 years of age, still has so much potential.

With Adama Traore being shipped out to FC Barcelona on loan, Neto can make the wide positions his own again, and the WWFC faithful have certainly not forgotten what he is capable of in an Old Gold shirt.
