Wolverhampton Wanderers: Owners looking at fresh investment as they eye top four place

Wolves owners, Fosun, could be willing to sell some of their stake in the club to further their hopes of making the Molineux club a top four outfit.

The Chinese based business has been in charge of the Midlands club for three years now and have overseen a period of success led by enigmatic manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

They romped to the Championship title just two seasons ago before cementing themselves in the top flight last season as they finished a healthy seventh place.

And now, according to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Fosun could be willing to sell up to 20% of the club as they look for more investment to further increase Wolves’ chances of challenging for the Champions League places in the Premier League.

Fosun have already shown they will back the club and have funded a wealth of big money signings during their time in charge. The likes of Helder Costa and Diogo Jota played key roles in the Championship, while they have gone on to add the likes of Raul Jimenez and Joao Moutinho since making it to the Premier League.

The Wolves owners announced in August that they had made record profits on the year as they continue to grow into the world of football.

Wolves meanwhile came back down to earth with a bump this weekend however, as they were seen off at Molineux by a rampant Chelsea side who eventually ran out 5-2 winners.

Fosun are ambitious owners and on the surface, look to be the ideal sort of people you want running a football club.

They are however a business, and while money isn’t an issue for them, they are being clever here by seeking further input. It’s an interesting step in the club’s development, with those behind the scenes clearly ambitious to grow even despite the gap to the top six and the success already achieved.
