Everton: Toffees have ‘less chance’ of signing Mohammed Kudus in January

Ajax Amsterdam's Steven Berghuis celebrates scoring their second goal with Mohammed Kudu

Transfer insider Dean Jones has shared that Everton have ‘less chance’ of signing Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Summer interest

The Goodison Park outfit were reportedly interested in a move for the 22-year-old right up until the end of the summer transfer window, and it was even reported that he went on strike in order to try and force through a deal.

However, it has not stopped his impressive performances this season, with five goals and one assist in eight games across all competitions, including a goal and an assist in Ajax’s recent 4-0 thumping of Rangers in the Champions League (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: January move?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has shared that Everton now have ‘less chance’ of signing Kudus in January in light of his recent performances, with Wolves another team who were reportedly interested in the Ghana international but may struggle to sign him in the winter.

The journalist said of the 22-year-old: “Even throughout the links in the summer, I was told that Ajax just didn’t want to lose him. Now we’re seeing why.

“It was a great performance from him against Rangers and, at this rate, there is even less chance now of Wolves or Everton signing him than there was at the end of the last window.”

The Verdict: Not too big a blow

Losing out on Kudus would not come as too big a blow to Frank Lampard’s side, given that Everton had already signed Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye and James Garner as midfield options in the summer.

However, the 22-year-old is flying at the moment, and he is also capable of playing further up the pitch, offering a welcome versatility to whichever team he represents.

Everton news!

Lauded as a ‘complete’ player with ‘electric pace & acceleration’ among other key attributes by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, Kudus would have certainly added quality to Lampard’s squad.

However, the Toffees need not to worry too much if they were banking on playing him in the middle of the park, given how they have strengthened in that department over the past few weeks.
