Wolves could still complete the signing of Lille centre-back Sven Botman in the January transfer window, according to journalist Luke Hatfield.

The Lowdown: Botman impresses for Lille

The towering Dutchman may only be 21 years of age but he has already grown into a key player for Lille, helping them to win the Ligue 1 title last season.

Botman has continued to be an important figure in the current campaign, starting 12 league matches and winning an average of 2.7 aerial duels per game in the Champions League.

The £27m-rated defender has been linked with a move to Wolves this month but he has a host of potential suitors and is yet to make a decision over his future.

The Latest: Hatfield talks up potential Botman move

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Hatfield gave a positive update on the situation, far from ruling Wanderers out of the race to sign Botman.

He claimed: "I think Wolves will still be keen on him. I'm not too sure whether he will be looking to move in January, but it doesn't surprise me that other teams have been linked with him because he's obviously a quality player."

The Verdict: Dominant addition

While Max Kilman, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss have all thrived in a back three for Wolves this season, Botman could be another level up from Bruno Lage's current central defensive options.

He is already an influential figure at a Champions League club and his average of 4.6 clearances per game in Ligue 1 this season is only bettered by Saiss (5.2) at Molineux.

At 6 foot 5, Botman is a colossal presence who could help to Wolves become even more assured defensively, while his age would also makes him a long-term addition. It's quite encouraging to hear Hatfield claiming that the Old Gold remain quite keen on the Dutch giant.
