There are many many disappointed faces in the Transfer Tavern this evening, with many English football fan’s hopes of a footballing legend moving to the Premier League being quickly quashed.
Indeed, despite some initial rumors, sources such as Talksport have confirmed that Italian footballing hero and current New York City FC midfielder Andrea Pirlo will not be making a move to current Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Initially, it was suggested that Pirlo could spend a spell in Lancashire while the MLS winter season break was on. Previously, the likes of Robbie Keane, Thierry Henry and Landon Donovan had all used the long winter break to play for Aston Villa, Arsenal and Everton respectively in recent years.
However, it appears that despite New York’s links with Manchester City, no such move will be happening for Pirlo this time.
The classy midfielder has instead insisted it would not be fair on his current team if he was to go and play an intense two month spell in the Premier League and risk getting an injury, rather than prepare as you normally would in a pre-season. Therefore, it appears for now that any move for Pirlo is firmly off, for now…
Football fans? Do you think Pirlo is missing out on a great opportunity to get English football on his already brilliant CV? Or should he stick to his principles and be loyal to his team? Let us know!
