Spurs fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still pining for their side to spend more money during this window in order to compete with the other big spenders looking to leave their mark on the Premier League next season. Having been enthralled by the Euros this summer they are beginning to turn their attention to which stars from this summer’s Championships could be on their way to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham, in every sense of the word, were extremely unlucky last season. They had without a doubt the best season they’ve had in a long time domestically but were beaten to the title by the unlikely Leicester City side who won the league only a year after just surviving relegation.
Despite their shortcomings in the league, Spurs played some excellent football throughout the season and currently employ the league’s top scorer in Harry Kane. Pochettino has worked wonders for the London club and, given their better than usual performances in the league last season, it seems that only a few extra players may be what is needed to push Tottenham over the line to win their first ever Premier League title.
So to all of you Spurs fans waiting patiently for your next pint or two (or three) and to see what the next season will bring, check out the 3 Euro 2016 semi finalists that should be, and possibly could be, on your team’s radar.
Mario Gotze
The young German playmaker has been out of favour at Bayern Munich pretty much ever since his move from Borussia Dortmund. A series of injuries lost him his place in the first team and he has seriously struggled to get it back.
Despite the host of injuries, he is still a world class talent, one of the best attacking midfielders in the world on his day and if Spurs are willing to splash the cash, then the German champions could probably be convinced to part ways with the 24-year-old.
Ever since his transfer to the German titans there have been consistent rumours that German international is unsettled in Munich, leading to a host of top European clubs being rumoured to be close to signing the World Cup wining midfielder and after one of their most positive seasons ever, Tottenham could easily have enough of a draw to them for the likes of Gotze to want to join.
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann is a wanted man and despite signing a new contract in recent weeks, Premier League clubs are still circling. The top goalscorer in Euro 2016 so far with 4 goals, the little Frenchman is a perfectly versatile player.
He can play out on the wing to supply the hungry Harry Kane with as many chances as he desires, he can play in behind to act as a second striker or a playmaker or he can play upfront as the main striker. To add another creative player like Griezmann to Pochettino’s squad would surely add another 20 goals at least in the upcoming Premier League outing.
The only problem facing the London club will be the inevitably big price tag on his head, a price tag that Spurs may not be able to afford and if Euro 2016 ends with Griezmann lifting the trophy as the tournaments top scorer, that price tag will on get higher.
Jonas Hector
Danny Rose is good, Hector is much better. The German first choice left back and the man who scored the winning spot kick in the shoot out against Italy in the Euro 2016 Quarter-Final probably wouldn’t hurt Tottenham’s bank account too much either.
Left backs aren’t usually big money signings and given the fact that he plays for FC Koln, who placed a dismal 9th place in the Bundesliga last season, it wouldn’t be too difficult to tempt him over to White Heart Lane.
With international experience, possibly being a part of the Euro 2016 winning Germany side and still only 26, it would be easy to see why Spurs would try and lure him over to London after the European Championships are over.
