3 reasons why Southampton must sell Pelle now

Saints fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were rather taken aback by the rumours that their big striker, Graziano Pelle could be leaving St. Mary’s, but now they may be warming to the idea.

It seems Southampton striker Graziano Pelle may be another on his way out of Southampton this summer. Gathering interest from the likes of Juventus, Chelsea and Everton after an impressive Euro 2016, the 30-year-old Italian is reported to be considering his options in search of a dream move as he enters the latter stage of his career.

There are no plans at Southampton to offer a new contract to Pelle, who has one year left on his current deal; however, it seems a move for the striker could suit both parties.

Here are THREE reasons why Southampton MUST sell Pelle now…

Take the cash

GrazianoPelle

There is no doubt Pelle is a good player. But with 1 year left on his contract and Southampton not likely to sell for less than £16m, it would not be a disaster to take the money offered for the 30-year old in order to invest elsewhere.

Use the Mane money and upgrade

If Southampton really want to improve on last season, they must spend big; and wisely. With Wanyama and Mane already departing, and Pelle sure to leave, the money will provide Southampton the chance to splash £30m plus on a suitable replacement. A top goal scorer will be a priority, especially if Pelle leaves.

Other options

Grazi Pelle

Even without Pelle, who faced stiff competition for a starting position all season, Southampton still have two quality options upfront. Shane Long was Saints main man last season up top and we are yet to see the best of Charlie Austin in a red and white shirt.

Claude Puek will be keen to replace Pelle with real quality. However, even without him in the squad, Saints still have some impressive options and there will be no panic buy as a result of the Italian leaving.
