Manchester United and Spurs are amongst the teams being mentioned as potential suitors for unsettled Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
The French international joined Madrid in a £30.6 million move from Lyon in 2009 and scored nine goals in thirty-two appearances at Madrid in his first season.
He has since dropped to the subs bench following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager, who has chosen Christiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria and Gonzalo Higuan as his favoured attacking options so far this season.
Lack of first team football and a reportedly ‘frosty’ relationship with Mourinho are being cited as reasons for why he could be on the move shortly.
The lack of goals coming from Harry Redknapp’s current crop of strikers means he is on the lookout for new additions as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premiership title.
Following the successful acquisition of Rafael Van der Vaart this summer, Redknapp will be hoping they can convince Benzema that reuniting with his former team-mate will be the right way to reignite his promising football career.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Manchester United are likely to make a bid for the Frenchman, having being narrowly pipped to acquiring his signature by Madrid in 2009.
Ferguson is understood to be an admirer of the striker and may wish to bring in reinforcements to support Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.
However there will be stiff competition from Italian giants Juventus and Inter who are said to be keen to sign the striker who has been dubbed by some as ‘the next Zidane’.
