Our punters here at the Transfer Tavern are still scratching their heads, as they wonder just who will take over the reins at Villa Park, following the recent sacking of Tim Sherwood.
Kevin McDonald is currently in temporary charge of the Villains at they seek a new manager, with ex Lyon coach Remi Garde still the hot favorite.
The Aston Villa job has certainly been something of a poisoned chalice over the years. Indeed, since the days of Martin O’Neill, Villa fans have not had too much to cheer about. Gerard Houllier unfortunately suffered with his health, Alex McLeish was a disaster and Paul Lambert was not much better.
Things seemed to be turning a corner with Sherwood, as they avoided relegation last season and reached the FA cup final. However, a poor start to this season, coupled with the losses of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph, means it is the same old story for Villa.

Remi Garde
The bookies favorite and indeed the man that appears to be the first pick for the powers that be at Villa Park. Any possible deal for the former Lyon coach has currently stalled, with their being disagreement over the make room his backroom staff, should he be offered the job.
Christoph Galtier
Another likely choice, Galtier guided his current team St Etienne to a very respectful fifth place finish in Ligue 1 last season. Given the amount of imports that Sherwood brought in from Ligue 1 in summer, it does appear that the Villa board have this in mind, and want either Garde or Galtier to work with what they have currently got.
Nigel Pearson
Many may feel that Pearson was unfairly sacked last summer, with it being clear that the Leicester City board did not like the image that he was putting out at the club. All that said, the Villa faithful may appreciate a no-nonsense and fiery approach in the form of Pearson, in order for them to stay in the division.
David Moyes
This is probably the most popular choice for the Villa fans, for although Moyes had a difficult time at Manchester United, he is nonetheless a proven Premier League manager. Moyes’ expertise should be more than enough to keep Villa in the division, and perhaps, even propel them to greater heights.
Brendan Rodgers
An outside shout, but certainly one that Villa fans would welcome with open arms. Rodgers’ would not only thing an attractive style of football to Villa fans, but he is also should have enough managerial talent to keep them in the division. Perhaps his recent sacking from Liverpool means that Rodgers may not be ready to rush back into management, but a decent club like Villa could certainly be a rebuilding point.
