5 players Arsenal must target to convince Ozil to sign new contract

Here at the Transfer Tavern we have been discussing five players who could really tempt Ozil to sign a new deal; it has been reported by the Times this morning that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are both reluctant to sign new deals with The Gunners as they want reassurance on transfers this summer.

Both players will have two years left on their contracts this summer and if new deals aren’t agreed they may have to sell on whilst they still have some value.

Arsenal has the money and ability to buy any players they want. They have to invest into their team this summer or risk losing the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who will get fed up with mediocrity. Fans, and even pundits ,are suggesting Arsenal need to rebuild their spine this summer, but only one man will be the judge of it in the end, Arsene Wenger.

I get the feeling that Wenger has finally given up on certain players, for example Giroud and Mertesacker and has lost all trust in them, if that is the case I can see Arsenal spending big this summer, Wenger’s contract runs out in 2017 and he will want to enjoy his last season.

He certainly will not want to lose the likes of Ozil and would instead want to end his Arsenal career on a high, the only way he’ll finish his Gunners managerial career with success is spending money this summer to ensure the Gunners have the services to deliver trophies.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang

Undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world right now, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has become one of Europe’s best since his move to Dortmund in 2013 with 52 goals in 92 games.

He’s a clinical goal scorer something Arsenal are crying out for, with the amount of chances Ozil and Sanchez create they would all thrive playing with each other, especially Aubameyang as he would no doubt get into double figures for League goals alone.

A signing of his calibre would a clear indication of Arsenals content and determination and prove to both players they want to move forward, although his services are unlikely and if he did become available for what would be a high price Real Madrid would be waiting in the wings, unfortunately for all clubs around the world, Aubameyang has admitted it is his dream to play for Madrid.

Zlatan Ibrahimović

Ibrahimovic

One of the best strikers in the world for many, many years. His whole career has been successful and he has just won the league with PSG. Zlatan is out of contract this summer and it has been reported he favours a move to England with London very appealing to him.

Arsenal nearly signed Zlatan when he was just a teenager but he refused to do a trial which was requested by the club. Zlatan guarantees any team goals and he would guarantee Arsenal the same, it is likely they will be in the Champions League next season and with both Ozil and Sanchez wanting to fight for every competition he could help massively in such a big competition.

He has 107 goals in 118 games for PSG since his move in 2012, this stat itself says something about the imagine of this striker. He could be available for free this summer after not signing a new contract; I am sure like most clubs Arsenal would be happy to accept his services.

Kostas Manolas

Manolas

Attacking isn’t Arsenal’s only issue, in actual fact they have done quite well with creating chances, although they still need a clinical striker, defensively they are frail and weak, teams have exposed the back four this season and have even set up to get crosses in the box as they know we cannot cope.

We have gifted team’s goals, and it has arguably cost us many points this season. A Centre Back has to be a priority for Arsenal this summer if they are to compete on every level. There is no point in signing a striker to get you goals if the defence is still leaking goals.

It has been reported recently that Manolas is on Arsenal’s radar, and he would certainly be an upgrade on Arsenals current crop of defenders, especially Mertesacker and Gabriel.

Granit Xhaka

xhakaaaaa

At just 23 years old he is already captain of his current team and has over 100 appearances for Monchengladbach. Arsenal needs a leader, a demanding CDM who is going to battle for every challenge and make Arsenal a more dominating side.

They seem to have lost any leadership since the days of Patrick Vieria who would die to make sure Arsenal win. The spine of Arsenals team has been weak for many years now, and although Coquelin and Elneny have been great for the Gunners, they still need someone better, someone who can tackle and distribute the ball, Xhaka isn’t blessed with pace but he reads a game well, at the tender age of 23 he is already a passionate captain something Arsenal have lacked for a years.

Ozil and Sanchez need to be able to trust players when they are attacking, too often Arsenal are caught on the counter and concede, Xhaka will give Arsenal the balance they so badly need and bring the best out of Arsenal’s attackers.

Gonzalo Higuain

Higuain

Arsenals long term admirer, someone they tried to sign the year the signed Mesut Ozil. A clinical striker who is defiantly up there with the world’s best. A phenomenal striker with a very impressive record, he has scored 65 goals in 102 appearances for Napoli and previously scored 107 in 190 games for Real Madrid.

He would improve Arsenal massively, and like Aubameyang and Ibrahimovic he would be number one for Arsenal and almost guarantee them goals. Ozil and Sanchez create numerous amounts of chances between them each game and that has been wasted this season, they need a world class striker to benefit from, especially Ozil who is close to matching Thierry Henry’s assist record.

Higuain has a massive release clause set at €94.736 million (£65.8million). Arsenal haven’t been known for spending the money the price tag may put them off, but to be the best you have to buy the best.
