Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern know it’s going to be all hands to the pump this season now as they battle to take the Championship title.
There’s been a real change in mood recently as the Magpies had been very confident only last week.
You can see why, too, after they beat Brighton and Huddersfield and drew to Reading away but their loss at home to Fulham surely changed that.
Now, they are locked level on points with the Seagulls at the top of the division and it looks highly likely that things will go to the wire in the second tier.
Newcastle, then, need all the help they can get and it appears Mo Diame is buying into that with him announcing his international retirement with immediate effect.
The midfielder, though, has been largely derided by fans in light of this news to rather hilarious effect and so, with that in mind, here’s some of the best of reaction from Twitter:
