Tottenham fans enjoying a few beverages in the Transfer Tavern are now hanging their heads in disappointment, after an agent ruled-out an arrival of an excellent striker.
The 28-year-old Italian international has been in exceptional form since moving Stateside, smashing home 24 goals in the last MLS season.
That form led to rumours of a return to Europe but Giovinco’s agent, Andrea D’Amico, ruled out such a transfer- though he did confirm clubs had kept tabs on the player.
“They watched him at different times but there was nothing concrete. There was general interest.”
“A return to Europe? Sebastian has never considered returning. The club has made him the cornerstone of their project, they’re definitely not willing to sell him. They want to build their team around him. Can a loan in January be ruled out? Yes, there’s absolutely no doubt.”
It’s a double-whammy for the Spurs supporters in the Tavern, who always conceded a permanent switch was unlikely but held hopes that a temporary loan move could be secured- which would have provided a major boost to their Champions League aspirations.
Spurs fans, how important is it that you sign a new striker in January? Let us know in the comments below!
