Tottenham fans are very quick to get a hate on for old Heurelho Gomes.

But you have to understand a few things about goalkeeping and goalkeepers before you start slating folk. As Harry Redknapp quite rightly said, people want a goalie who doesn’t make mistakes – and they don’t exist.

The second thing is that goalkeeper needs a quality and stable defense. Assembling you back four from a pool of ten players is a recipe for disaster. The great sides in football history all had the same solid, week in, week out set of defenders.
