Punters have started to make their way into the Football Transfer Tavern as they look to keep up to date with today’s transfer gossip as well as trying out our new food menu.
James Gheerbrant from The Independent is one of those tasting the newly-introduced food in the bar and upon finishing his meal, he decides to take the opportunity to give us some breaking transfer news.
He claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has played down suggestions that Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic is close to joining the club during the winter transfer window.
Recent reports in the tavern had indicated that Arsenal representatives held talks with the player’s agent and were now preparing to make a firm offer for the 30-year-old, who could be allowed to leave the Turin club.
It is assumed that the Gunners must recruit another striker after seeing England’s Theo Walcott ruled out for the rest of the season.
But while Wenger admits that he is looking for a new forward, the Juventus man is not an option.
“We are looking at potential possibilities for us to get someone in, but we are not especially in for Vucinic,” Wenger said.
“We are not on any special case. I would love to announce something that would excite you and me, but I don’t have the possibility to do it.”
It is possible that Vucinic will now remain in Italy with Inter Milan understood to be lining up a move for the Montenegro international.
Arsenal punters in the bar remember when the Gunners landed Mesut Ozil on deadline day, and they hope that Wenger will be able to pull a striker out of the hat this time round.
