Arsenal are expected to strengthen further this summer as they look to build on last season’s Premier League title-winning campaign.
Mikel Arteta has already welcomed several new faces to the Emirates and continues to target reinforcements capable of keeping the Gunners at the top of English football.
With squad depth likely to be crucial across multiple competitions, Arsenal are still pursuing another marquee addition in midfield.
Now, it appears talks have stepped up over one of the club’s leading transfer targets.
Arsenal in Direct Talks for Bruno G
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are now in direct negotiations with Newcastle United over the signing of Bruno Guimarães.
The Brazil international, described as “special” by former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, is understood to be keen on the move, with reports claiming he has informed the Magpies of his desire to join Arsenal.
While Newcastle had initially hoped to receive close to £100 million, it is believed a deal could now be agreed for between £70 million and £80 million. Arsenal have already seen an opening offer rejected, but discussions between the clubs are continuing.
Negotiations have intensified following Guimarães’ return from the World Cup, with both sides now speaking directly rather than through intermediaries.
Arsenal’s pursuit is also thought to be linked to the departure of Christian Nørgaard, creating room for another experienced midfielder as Arteta looks to strengthen a title-winning squad even further.
