Arsenal fans absolutely hate Shkodran Mustafi. That much is well-known, and as the fans are getting increasingly more desperate to bring in a new central defender, Unai Emery has refused to rule out signing Samuel Umtiti. The Spaniard had an interview with RMC Sport (Transcript via The Metro) and it’s given the Gunners hope of bringing him in.
"He’s a very good player. France has a lot of very good footballers who are playing abroad. Ligue 1 is a very attractive market for a lot of teams. I’ve always had French players in my teams. I’ve always been able to count on those players."

This season has been a strange one for Umtiti as he’s been plagued by a knee problem and has missed a lot of games. However, when he does play, the 25-year-old is a Rolls Royce of a defender. Quick, strong, defensively smart and capable of playing out from the back, when he’s fit no one can question the Frenchman’s talents, and the fact he won the World Cup last summer just shows his credentials.
It certainly won’t be easy, or cheap, bringing Umtiti to The Emirates. The Frenchman will reportedly cost up to £60 million if the Gunners are to prise him from Barcelona, and that would take a significant chunk of their summer budget, yet the fans all believe that it would be more than worth it. A central defensive partnership of Umtiti and Sokratis Papastathopoulos is one that they’d love to be getting behind every week, and any signing that sees Mustafi off is a good one as far as they’re concerned.

The Gunners would do anything to sign Umtiti this summer, and even if they miss out on the Barcelona man a new centre-back should be a priority.
