With Laurent Koscielny’s days as Arsenal captain looking numbered after his refusal to join the team on their pre-season tour and his links with a move to France, the club could be looking for a new skipper over the next few weeks.
And a player who could be seen as staking a claim for the armband hasn’t exactly been given a glowing recommendation by some of these fans – judging by these comments to his latest Instagram post.
Granit Xhaka – who was part of Unai Emery’s group of captains last season – could find himself in the running to become Arsenal’s first-choice leader should Koscielny be relieved of his duties, though this attempt at evoking a rallying spirit ahead of the new season did not go down well with these supporters.
Xhaka posted a picture of a determined-looking midfielder at a press conference along with the quote: “Sometimes it’s not about who has more talent, it’s about who’s hungrier” – which led to ridicule from fans who felt he was in no position to talk about neither hunger nor talent as he received a rather scathing response.
Some fans accused the Swiss of giving the ball away too often, making mistakes and being a liability in the Arsenal team – which may suggest Xhaka may have to win over a fair few supporters should he assume the armband in the weeks to come:
And sometimes its not about making a mistake before half time

He is simply campaigning for the armband against Ozil. He thinks his advantage against Ozil is being hungrier. Silly Granit!
