Aston Villa’s summer spending has been a large talking point this summer, getting to the point where Christian Purslow has gone on Sky Sports to defend the club’s decision making.
The Aston Villa chief executive spoke of different aspects surrounding the club’s transfer activity, with one of the biggest things being his correction of Villa’s reported expenditure figures:
Christian Purslow: “On the 12 signings, we actually spent £127m of fixed fees. The difference of £127m and £144m (reported figure) I suspect is your estimates of the so-called add-ons or bonuses.” [sky sports news] #avfc

Aston Villa were brave in their transfer strategy, with only three of their 12 signings having ever played Premier League football before.
There have been comparisons between their summer window and that of Fulham last season, as reported by The Birmingham Mail, though the club have refuted this, with Purslow stating it was no “trolley dash”.
Many Villa fans have taken encouragement from the club’s transfer window, but this interview from the chief executive seems to have brought some supporters even more hope for the future under the current leadership.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the interview, including enthused Aston Villa fans, can be seen below:

I love hearing Puslow talk, he is possibly the best signing by NSWE, he gets the club, he respects the club, what it stands for & most importantly he respects us, the fans. #UTV #VTID #AVFC #partofthepride
