Yesterday saw a day rammed full of action take centre staged in the sporting world as the January transfer window slammed shut. Aston Villa fans were up late as they hoped for a late deal to see Leroy Fer join Villa Park from Swansea City, however, they ended up with a different Swansea man in Tom Carroll, and the fans were left baffled.

It’s fair to say that the fans were more than a little bit surprised to see the news of Carroll’s arrival. They loved the idea of signing Leroy Fer from the club given the Dutchman’s dynamism in central midfield and saw him as a good option to be able to use alongside the likes of Conor Hourihane and John McGinn, however, they’ll have to settle for Carroll.
The two midfielders are certainly very different. Tom Carroll is a lightweight, classy midfielder who has a clean passing range, yet he isn’t the physical midfield dominator that the Villains were after when they started looking into Fer. The fans are still confused about this one, and will just hope that Carroll comes with a purpose and isn’t just a last minute panic buy after missing out on Fer.

The Villains were absolutely shocked to see their club unveiling Carroll as they all expected Fer to be the man that would be joining late last night.
