Many Aston Villa fans have debated former England winger Stewart Downing’s time at the club via social media.
The Midlands based side have had an abundance of good wingers over the years, and one of those in Downing has been remembered by fans, who have judged his time at Villa Park.
Downing joined the Claret and Blue in 2009 shortly after suffering relegation with Middlesbrough, signing a four-year contract to become Martin O’Neill’s first signing that summer.
Of those four years on his contract at Villa, Downing would spend just two at the club before gaining a move to Liverpool in 2011.
11 goals and 14 assists in 79 games for the 1982 European Cup winners would leave a mixed impression on fans of the club.
Following his spell with Liverpool, the former England international would move to West Ham United, before a return to boyhood club Middlesbrough.
Now with Blackburn Rovers, Downing, 35, is edging closer to his final playing days amongst the top two flights of English football.

If he wasn’t left footed he’d be seen as bog standard I think. He was ok but played at a time wen left footed wingers were at a premium
