Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to a post-match comment made by manager Dean Smith after his side’s point against Newcastle United and their defensive display.
The Claret and Blue side are desperate to start sealing some victories in the Premier League as they battle it out with the likes of West Ham United and Bournemouth for top-flight status next term.
Sitting 19th in the Premier League table, Smith’s side picked up a draw against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle on Wednesday evening to drag themselves level on points with the aforementioned duo.
An opener from Dwight Gayle had initially given the home side the lead before a spirited comeback saw Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady equalise.
Following the game Smith opted to claim his team were the ‘better side’ and that his defence had performed well, comments that were shared via Twitter account @villareport.

Reacting to the Villa boss’ comments, fans gave their opinion on the performance and the majority didn’t seem to agree with Smith. One suggested the manager needs to start playing two up front to get more victories, whilst others weren’t happy with their failure to win with one even suggesting he is “sounding more like Bruce every game.”
