Aston Villa’s long-awaited return to the Premier League has quickly turned into a fight to stave off relegation.
After a solid enough start, they’ve won just one of their last eight in the league, dropping them to 17th in the table and, to make matters worse, the Daily Mail recently suggested the club could be forced to sell players due to potential financial problems for the club.
Now, December is a hugely important month for Dean Smith’s men, facing each of the three teams beneath them before the turn of the year.
January could also be crucial, as the transfer window could present a huge opportunity to bolster their squad. Thankfully for them, Sky journalist Rob Dorsett took to Twitter to allay any fears in regards to a potential fire sale and claimed the boss was positive on the matter.
Smith has previously ruled out a flurry of signings, but keeping hold of players could be just as pivotal to their survival bid.
The Villa boss ruled out any key players leaving the club in January, also stating that none have a buy-out clause in their contract.
#avfc boss Dean Smith tells me he won’t have to sell any of his best players in January to balance the books, and NONE (including @jackgrealish1 )have a buy-out clause in their contracts. See #ssn
