Aston Villa are interested in signing Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, as reported by Wales Online.
Neil Warnock hasn’t ruled out the move: “As I’ve said before, we’ll listen to anything. I’ve not heard anything and I don’t think Neil [Etheridge] has.”
It is unknown what offer it would take to prise the goalkeeper away from Cardiff though.
Etheridge may have been relegated with Cardiff last season, though that was through no fault of his own, as he gave a number of impressive performances.
The Philippines international played 38 games last season, keeping 10 clean sheets. He also made three penalty saves, 141 total saves and 19 sweeper clearances.
He placed second on the list of goalkeepers to make the most saves, just seven behind the leader, Lukasz Fabianski.
Having someone who was able to keep the ball out of the net so many times could be very useful for Villa, especially at the beginning of the season, as his teammates – specifically the new-look backline – acclimatise to the Premier League and playing together.
If Aston Villa are able to sign Etheridge it would be a superb move for the club and their survival hopes.
The Villans’ search for a goalkeeper has taken longer than will have been hoped this summer, though if this comes off it will certainly be worth the wait.
