Aston Villa interested in Tom Heaton

Aston Villa can’t afford many more slip-ups if they are to secure a play-off place under Dean Smith, with the teams around them all picking up points.

The Villains have certainly displayed moments of promise since the former Brentford boss took over, but there’re still a number of improvements that need to be made. However, it appears as if the club are looking to January, as according to The Sun on Sunday (25/11; page 60) (via HITC), Aston Villa are interested in signing Tom Heaton.

Dean Smith is planning to make a move to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton on loan when the January transfer window opens.

Steve Bruce managed to secure the services of two goalkeeper during the summer months, but it appears as if the Midlands club aren’t satisfied enough as Heaton is now a January target.

However, Villa aren’t the only team interested in the former England international’s services, as Stoke City, Leeds United and Bristol City are also in the race.

THE VERDICT:

A priceless purchase for Villa in January.

Tom Heaton will be desperate to move away from Turf Moor having slipped down the pecking order under Sean Dyche, with a move to the Championship helping him secure regular minutes.

Aston Villa could do with bringing in someone like Heaton that can provide experience in-between the sticks, as Orjan Nyland has been less than convincing at times for the Villains.
