Aston Villa-The Bookie Killer

Sunday’s Carling Cup final between Aston Villa and Manchester United promises to be an eventful and entertaining affair.

Aston Villa’s English contingent of Agbonlahor, Young, Milner and Downing etc. look to prove they can perform when it matters and Wayne Rooney, in the form of his life, promises to add to his hefty goal tally.

Aston Villa are looking to win their first trophy in 14 years (they won this trophy in 1996) and United are hoping winning the Carling Cup can lead to another treble-winning season of the Carling Cup, Premiership and Champions League. I’m not going to do a match preview of this game, but will go into the top bets that you should put on if you want to win yourselves some money (the odds are courtesy of betting site Ladbrokes):

First goal scorer: Wayne Rooney 4/1, Gabriel Agbonlahor 8/1

Rooney is in the form of his life this season and has scored in 6 of his last 8 games for United, so is the favourite to score first. Gabby, whilst not as prolific as Wayne, has scored in his last two outings for Villa, and at 8/1, could be a good bet.

United to win 1-0 7/1, Villa to win 2-0 22/1

In the last three years there have not been more than three goals scored in the final, and last year’s game between United and Spurs finished goalless. So don’t expect many goals here. United are heavy favourites, but Villa could catch them on a bad day, just like Everton did last week, and 22/1 to win 2-0 are good odds.

Rooney to score hat-trick 20/1

As I mentioned above, Rooney is unstoppable at the moment. He might be able to do to Villa what he did to Hull last month, and at 20/1, if you put a few pound on Wayne to shine and score a hat-trick, you will be quids in.

Long Shots: Darren Fletcher to score first 20/1, Ashley Young 14/1

Gary Neville is at 80/1 if you were wondering, but seeing as he hasn’t scored in years and probably won’t play, I wouldn’t waste your money. Fletcher and Young though, are good outside bets. Fletcher chips in with the odd goal for United (3 this season) and Young has scored 7 times for Villa this season.
