The Transfer Tavern is filled with Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday punters this evening, hoping to hear some insight from our landlord ahead of a key Championship clash tomorrow afternoon.
It’s been a difficult season for the Birmingham outfit and although the appointment of Steve Bruce initially reversed the tide, they’re now in 15th place with their hopes of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking seemingly over.
Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, are on course for another playoff campaign after reaching last season’s final – where they ultimately lost to Hull City. Carlos Carvalhal’s side are currently in sixth place, five points clear of Fulham in seventh.
Our landlord simply can’t decide who’ll come out on top tomorrow afternoon; Wednesday have been unquestionably the stronger side this season, but Villa’s squad contains some serious pedigree and they’ll be backed by a huge home support at Villa Park.
However, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton, one of their biggest voices on the Football League, has predicted a win for the Owls, decided by just a single goal in a seemingly cagey 1-0 affair.
Discussing how the match could pan out based on recent results, he said; “We have seen different sides of Wednesday over the last three games. Losing to Leeds, thrashing Norwich and then drawing against Burton.
“Steve Bruce looked to be working wonders when he started at Aston Villa but they haven’t been able to keep that form up and I think Wednesday will just shade it.”
