Liverpool are expected to be active in the transfer market once again this summer after a record-breaking spree last year.
The Reds spent around £446 million on seven new signings — the biggest outlay ever by a Premier League club in a single window — bringing in names such as Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
While there have been positives, the overall return on that investment has been mixed, prompting the club to once again look toward the market for further reinforcements.
However, their pursuit of one of Europe’s most in-form attackers has now hit a major obstacle.
Bayern Respond to Olise/Liverpool Links
Bayern Munich have firmly dismissed speculation linking Michael Olise with a move to Liverpool this summer.
The French winger has been in sensational form since joining Bayern from Crystal Palace in 2024, racking up 36 goals and 43 assists in 94 appearances across all competitions. This season alone, he has contributed 16 goals and 29 assists, underlining his importance to the German giants.
Olise — described as “unbelievable” by former World Cup winner Christoph Kramer — has naturally attracted attention, with Liverpool reportedly identifying him as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah, who is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season after a glittering nine-year spell.
Reports from Germany have even suggested the Reds could be willing to spend as much as £173 million to secure his signature.
However, Bayern’s stance is clear. Honorary president Uli Hoeness has poured cold water on any potential deal, insisting the club have no intention of selling one of their key players.
He said, per TalkSPORT: “Liverpool have already spent €500million [£432m] this year and are having a very poor season. We won’t contribute to them playing better next year.”
Hoeness added: “We play this game for our fans. We have 430,000 members, we have millions of fans worldwide, and it doesn’t help them much if we have €200m [£173m] in the bank, but play worse football every Saturday because of it.”
With Bayern standing firm, Liverpool’s hopes of landing Olise appear slim. The German club clearly view him as central to their project, meaning the Reds may have to look elsewhere as they search for a long-term replacement for Salah this summer.
