Report: QPR in talks over new contract for 21 y/o winger
Queens Park Rangers are thought to be in talks to extend the contract of winger Bright Osayi-Samuel.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Hoops from Blackpool in 2017, is said to have had a one-year extension in his current deal activated – but the club are keen to secure a new, long-term contract for the Nigerian-born forward, according to TalkSPORT.
TalkSPORT also suggests that Osayi-Samuel is willing to commit his future to QPR, with the youngster making 34 appearances in all competitions for the side last season.
However, despite retaining his starting position upon the arrival of Mark Warburton, he has spent the last two league games as an unused substitute, and last appeared for the club in the Carabao Cup defeat to Portsmouth.
Statistics may suggest his lack of appearances in recent weeks could lead to Osayi-Samuel feeling hard done by – his rate of three dribbles per game is the most amongst the QPR squad, while his ratio of 1.8 key passes per game is only bettered by Ryan Manning (as per WhoScored) – highlighting the attacking source that he provides to the Rangers frontline.
Though having been booked in each of his last three Championship appearances, perhaps discipline is a concern for Warburton in terms of selecting Osayi-Samuel at present.
Osayi-Samuel is now in his third season at QPR, and having initially been a starter under the new regime, his recent boot from the starting XI could suggest a theme of appearing sporadically for the side is to continue.
However, given his young age and the stats he is producing when he is called upon, perhaps it is no surprise that the club are still keen to tie Osayi-Samuel down to a new deal as he continues to develop.
