Report: QPR team news as Mark Warburton thanks fans ahead of Wigan Athletic clash
QPR boss Mark Warburton has thanked the Hoops faithful for the level of support shown after another winless week for the team.
Successive defeats to Bristol City and Swansea City may have put something of a dampener on an encouraging start to the season which had started Warburton’s reign on a positive note.
But speaking ahead of the weekend’s meeting with Wigan Athletic, Warburton highlighted the importance of the appreciation shown by the fans amid back-to-back losses.
He told the club website: “They have to see the team give 100% effort. They have to see the team trying to play a certain way and trying to incorporate new ideas. Of course, they want to win games of football, but they have to see the team create and entertain.
We never forget it’s a results industry, [but] it’s an entertainment industry as well, and we have to entertain the supporters.
So it’s never taken for granted, but the fact they applaud the players off means a lot to the players – they recognise that they’ve given everything they’ve got and that’s a huge boost for them.”
The Hoops are back in W12 on Saturday afternoon and have a number of doubts as they prepare for the visit of the Latics, with Warburton forced into replacing Luke Amos and Geoff Cameron before the second half during the defeat to Swansea.
According to West London Sport, Amos’ hamstring problem was to be assessed following Wednesday’s game, while Warburton indicated that Cameron’s withdrawal was a precautionary measure.
Having battled to a point against Huddersfield Town a fortnight ago and survived a penalty thriller against Bristol City, the Hoops will be seeking a first win at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this season to reward the fans for their unconditional support.
And with question marks over the fitness of some players, Warburton may have to call upon those on the fringes to deliver a first home victory since April this weekend.
