The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern enjoyed their side’s January transfer window. It was a case of evolution, rather than revolution for Mauricio Pochettino, with just one major addition – Lucas Moura – moving to North London.
It’s been a similar tale for Spurs over the last 18 months or so, as Daniel Levy and Pochettino continue to make minor adjustments and changes to a squad that is undoubtedly on the up.
A repeat of that over the summer, you would think, is likely – with Tottenham not needing to bring in more than a few players. However, one area that could do with further reinforcement is in central midfield – especially given the fact that Mousa Dembele has struggled with injury problems over the last year or so.
Daniel Levy is, of course, often frugal with his funds and rarely likes to spend big. What’s more, given his Premier League experience, it would be a move of little risk for the Lilywhites.
By no means are Watford said to be ready to sell him, though, with the club instead only willing to cash-in if the price is right, and there is no direct mention of what that price could be other than it being beyond the £20 million mark.
Doucoure has been one of the Premier League’s most significant breakout stars this season, given that he has enjoyed his best campaign since moving to Watford. With 7 goals and 2 assists already this term, there is no doubting his quality.
Landlord’s Verdict
Doucoure has been fantastic this year. A real presence in midfield, the way he controls the game and forces play forward has been a big part of Watford’s playstyle this season.
They won’t want to lose him, but he’d be a perfect fit at Tottenham alongside the likes of Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama.
This is a move that makes sense.
