Chelsea’s push for a top-four finish suffered a blow at the weekend following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
Liam Rosenior’s side controlled large portions of the game but struggled to convert their possession into clear chances, ultimately leaving empty-handed.
The result means qualification for next season’s Champions League is no longer fully in Chelsea’s hands. Liverpool have edged ahead of the Blues on goal difference, dropping Rosenior’s men into sixth place as the race for the top four intensifies.
With the season entering its final stretch, attention is also beginning to shift toward the summer transfer window — and reports suggest one of Chelsea’s key players could be attracting serious interest from abroad.
Enzo ‘In Talks’ to Leave Chelsea
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández is reportedly in discussions over a potential departure from Stamford Bridge this summer after attracting interest from several clubs around the world.
The Argentina international has spent the last three years in west London, but his future is now being questioned ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. According to Arabic outlet WinWin, the 25-year-old has received approaches from multiple sides, including European heavyweights Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, those two clubs are not the only ones monitoring the situation. The report claims that two Saudi Pro League teams and a pair of Premier League sides have also made enquiries about a possible deal.
Fernández — described as “magnificent” by Rosenior — is said to be open to considering his options, with preliminary conversations already taking place with interested teams. Negotiations could accelerate after the 2026 World Cup, when the midfielder’s long-term future may become clearer.
Any move would still be complicated. Fernández remains under contract at Chelsea for another six years, and the club are not believed to be actively looking to sell one of their most influential players.
Since joining the Blues from Benfica for around €121 million in January 2023, the midfielder has become a key figure in Chelsea’s midfield. This season alone he has contributed 12 goals and six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, underlining his importance in Rosenior’s system.
While speculation around Fernández is beginning to grow, Chelsea are unlikely to part with such a crucial player easily. Interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs may test their resolve, but for now the Argentine remains a central part of Rosenior’s plans at Stamford Bridge.
