Everton fans were left stunned after the club revealed that midfielder Andre Gomes returned to full first-team training.
The Portuguese star was sidelined back in November after suffering a fracture-dislocation of his right ankle following a challenge from Spurs’ winger Heung-min Son. Indeed, the South Korea international was shown a red card during 1-1 draw at Goodison Park and left in floods of tears as he realised the extent of Gomes’ injury.
Due to his injury, the 26-year-old has made just eight appearances in the Premier League this season and could jump straight back into the side after the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin have received heavy criticism from the Gwladys Street faithful.
After just 86 days, the club’s official Twitter account confirmed that he took part in training at the Toffees’ Finch Farm training complex on Tuesday. It was the first time that Gomes trained under Carlo Ancelotti and fans were delighted to see him out on the training field. One fan described his quick return as “remarkable”.
