Journalist Simon Phillips says that Frank Lampard is 'seriously pushing' again for Everton to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

The Lowdown: Summer interest

As per Football Insider, the Goodison Park outfit - along with Nice and Celta Vigo - registered an interest in signing the Chile international last summer, with the latter even making a bid for the striker.

After the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, the Merseyside club decided to sign Neal Maupay from Brighton and Hove Albion instead, but the move has not really worked out.

The Frenchman has scored only once in the Premier League and has been limited to just seven starts in the division (Transfermarkt), so the Toffees may need to dip into the market again for some added firepower up top.

The Latest: Lampard 'pushing' for Brereton Diaz

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Phillips says that Lampard is 'seriously pushing' again to sign Brereton Diaz for Everton after missing out on him in the summer.

The journalist explained: “They’re pondering a move and he will be a cheap option. Lampard is seriously pushing for that signing again.”

The Verdict: Will Lampard get a chance?

There have been reports that Lampard only has one or two matches to save his job, with Everton falling into the relegation zone in the Premier League. Therefore, he may not be given a say on January transfers, and new additions could be left to his potential replacement.

Nonetheless, Brereton Diaz would be a shrewd addition, given his impressive return of nine goals and four assists in the Championship so far this season.

He is out of contract in the summer too, meaning that he is likely to be available for a cut-price amount, which should push Everton to go for him regardless of Lampard's uncertain future.
