Everton are reportedly now 'on track' to sign Idrissa Gueye, with talks 'ongoing' for the defensive midfielder.

The Lowdown: Closing in

It was reported earlier this week that the Goodison Park outfit are closing in on a deal to bring Gueye back to Merseyside, with final details set to be discussed.

There is even hope that he could be signed in time to play Chelsea in their opening Premier League fixture this weekend, but parts of the deal still need to be ironed out.

The Latest: Deal 'on track'

Taking to Twitter, reliable journalist Alan Myers has revealed that the deal to take Gueye to the Toffees is 'on track', although talks are still 'ongoing' with PSG over the Senegal international:

"Talks ongoing with PSG and Everton over Idrissa Gana Gueye, player has not been at Finch Farm for a medical yet, but deal on track."

The Verdict: Relief

There may have been some worry from Blues supporters that Gueye's deal would not get done after it going quiet over the past couple of days.

However, it seems as if it is on track, and the 32-year-old could even feature for them against Chelsea.

Once hailed a ‘monster’ by Tim Sherwood when he was managing the player at Aston Villa, Gueye boasts the experience of playing in the Premier League with two different teams, and given that he was somewhat of a fans' favourite during his time at EFC, this is a deal that just makes sense.
