Injury expert Ben Dinnery has now given his reaction to some Everton news that he has heard involving Nathan Patterson.

The Lowdown: Scotland call-up

As shared by BBC Sport, Patterson has been named in the Scotland squad for their FIFA World Cup play-off semi-final against Ukraine, despite still recovering from surgery and being 'doubtful' for the game.

However, he could play a part in the final should they get there, where Steve Clark's team would face Wales for a place on the plane to Qatar.

The Latest: Dinnery reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, Dinnery, who also contributes for Sky Sports, has now given his reaction to the news, claiming that it will be a 'big psychological boost' for Patterson just to be named in the squad:

“My understanding is that he’s expected to miss out against Ukraine.

“Lampard, in the not too distant past, was a player himself. Maybe he has got more empathy for the international team and the difficulty that the managers have. It’s a results-driven business.

“You just hope as a manager that the right decisions are taken without taking too big a risk.

“To be part of that squad could be a big psychological boost. It’s a huge game and he’ll be delighted to be around the squad.

A change of scenery and some good work on the training pitches will stand him in good stead to get ready for the new campaign with Everton.”

The Verdict: Good sign

It is a good sign both for Patterson and the Toffees themselves that he has been named in the squad following a lengthy spell out.

He has only featured once for the senior team since his January move from Glasgow Rangers, which was in the 2-0 win at home to Boreham Wood in the FA Cup back in March.

Blues supporters will be desperate to see more of their new signing next term, and being in the Scotland squad will hopefully help him regain his fitness for pre-season, before getting ready for the new campaign.
