Sean Dyche is ‘very interested’ in becoming the new Everton manager, according to football reporter Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Lampard sacked by Everton

After 44 games at the helm, Frank Lampard was dismissed as manager of the Toffees on Monday, with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against fellow relegation strugglers West Ham United proving to be the tipping point after a very disappointing first half of the season.

The former Chelsea boss leaves the Toffees 19th in the Premier League table, and Everton chiefs are now tasked with finding a suitable replacement in order to avoid being relegated from the top flight for the first time in 72 years.

The Latest: Dyche interested in Everton job

Jones was speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the Toffees’ next managerial appointment, referencing Dyche’s firm interest in the vacancy amid reports that the 51-year-old is the favourite for the job.

The reporter stated: “I can’t speak directly on behalf of Sean Dyche but I am told that he has been very interested in this job. To be honest, I think that he is probably the sort of profile they should be looking at to save that team.”

The Verdict: Right candidate?

Even though Everton have had a dreadful season so far, their defensive record has not been too bad, with their tally of 28 goals conceded the joint-tenth lowest in the Premier League. This would provide an existing framework for Dyche, who has at times been known to implement a more defensive style of play.

Hailed as ‘brilliant‘ by BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton in the past, the 51-year-old did a fantastic job on a shoestring budget with Burnley, remarkably finishing seventh in the 2017/18 season despite making a net profit in the two transfer windows prior to the conclusion of that campaign.

Considering that the Toffees are known to have lost more than £100m for three successive years, the likelihood is that Dyche would not have a great deal to spend if he comes to Goodison Park, but he has a proven track record of being able to get a tune out of teams assembled at a relatively low cost.
