Burnley Maxwel Cornet celebrates after scoring against Leeds
Everton have submitted a revised offer for Maxwel Cornet, according to The Daily Mail.
The lowdown
The Toffees presented a loan proposal to Burnley at first but saw it rejected by the Clarets (via The Daily Mail).
Cornet, who only moved to Turf Moor from Lyon last summer, has been identified as a potential replacement for Richarlison after his move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Guardian’s Ed Aarons reported on Thursday that the Toffees are locked in a two-horse race for his signature alongside newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.

According to Saturday’s print edition of The Daily Mail (23 July, pg. 111, via Goodison News), Everton have also tabled a permanent bid worth £25m.
It’s a complex deal because the player has a release clause of £17.5m, but Everton only want to pay £5m up front.
It seems that, for Burnley to agree, they’re willing to stump up another £20m next summer, when the Toffees seemingly hope to have more spending power.

The verdict
Would Cornet be a good replacement for Richarlison?
The 25-year-old has limited Premier League experience, with only 26 outings in the English top flight, but he did manage nine goals for a team which finished 18th and was relegated. In fact, Cornet was responsible for more than 25% of the Clarets’ 34 league goals last season.
There are actually some parallels with Richarlison’s time at Watford. While the Brazilian was a fair bit younger then than Cornet in 2021/22, he notched 10 goals and assists for the Hornets in his one and only season at Vicarage Road before getting a move to Merseyside.
Cornet’s former team-mate Chris Wood says that he possesses ‘fantastic quality‘ and is the kind of striker who can produce a ‘highlight reel’ of excellent goals.
Similar in profile to Jarrod Bowen of West Ham, the Ivorian could be a decent pick-up for Everton if their second offer proves successful.
