Over the summer, Villa signed Hibernian’s quality midfielder John McGinn after six seasons north of the border.
The midfielder joined the club after establishing himself as one of the best players in Scotland and arguably one of the best players to have played for Hibs over the years. He was instrumental in getting the club back into the Premiership. Moreover, the midfielder helped Hibs end their 114-year wait to lift the Scottish Cup in 2016.
He made 30 appearances in the Premiership last season and was involved in nine goals last year. Such were his impressive performances over the yeat that he was nominated for the ‘Players’ Player of the Year’ award and had even attracted interest from Celtic.
With Villa looking to get back to the Premiership, it looked as though Villa were signing a player that would come in and add some serious quality to the side.
Here’s what some fans had to say when he arrived at Villa…

Despite Villa starting the season so poorly, McGinn started the season very well and registered an assist in his debut for the club against Wigan. He registered another assist in his second game and scored his first goal for the club in their loss against Sheffield Wednesday. Although they lost the game, McGinn’s goal was superb and showcased just what a good player he was. The midfielder has the ability to not only play a long pass but also strike a ball.
Ever since he made his first game for the club, the midfielder has been one of the best players at the club and has been one of the best players to have joined the Championship over the summer.
So far this season, he’s scored two goals and also picked four assists. Now with Dean Smith at the club, the midfielder’s game is only going to improve and it seems the Hibs fans were right to be so gutted about losing such a good player.
