With Newcastle United’s season stuttering there is word in the press that Newcastle’s long await for French right back Mathieu Debuchy may be coming to an end in January.
The Mirror reports that the £6 million price tag may also fall due to Debuchy’s interest in joining former club team mate Yohan Cabaye.
Interest in Debuchy first came around in the summer of 2012 when Padrew fought in vein to sign the French right back to join Newcastle’s French revolution.
A move for Debuchy could see the start of the end of Danny Simpson’s time at Newcastle with the former Manchester United right back going out of contract at the end of the season making him available to talk to other clubs regarding a free transfer in January.
Newcastle have a lot of players in back up should Simpson move on and the signing of Debuchy not materialise with players such as Ryan Taylor, Davide Santon, James Tavernier and James Perch all able to play in that position.
At the age of 27 Debuchy has had quite a lot of experience at the top of the football chain over the last 3 seasons playing for France in Euro 2012 and in France’s world cup qualifiers. He is also captain of Lille and has played 3 games in the Champions league with them this season. This season alone he has already played 16 games with 1 assist to his name.
Hopefully if we can bring in this versatile right back who can also play as a right wing back and right midfielder then we could see link play between him, Cababye and Ben Arfa excel and potentially his crosses will allow Ben Arfa a free role down the right leaving Debuchy the freedom to plant a cross just like Shane Ferguson did onto Papiss Cisse’s head a few weeks ago.
