Ipswich Town know all too well how important having enough firepower is in the Premier League.
The last time the Tractor Boys were in the top flight, Liam Delap led the line admirably with 12 league goals, but it was not enough to prevent relegation.
His performances did, however, earn him a big-money move to Chelsea, although that transfer has since failed to work out.
Now back in the Premier League under Gary O’Neil, Ipswich have already strengthened their attack with the arrivals of Emersonn and Chuba Akpom. And it looks like another experienced forward is about to follow them through the door.
Maeda Set for Ipswich Medical
Ipswich are on the verge of completing the signing of Daizen Maeda from Celtic, with the Japan international arriving in Suffolk ahead of his medical.
According to Sky Sports News reporters Anthony Joseph and Dharmesh Sheth, Maeda travelled to the area on Thursday and is expected to undergo medical tests on Friday before completing the remaining paperwork on his move.
The two clubs have already agreed a deal worth £10 million, made up of an initial £8m fee plus £2m in performance-related add-ons.
The 27-year-old has built an impressive reputation during his time with Celtic thanks to his relentless work rate, pace and eye for goal, while he also brings valuable international experience with Japan.
If everything goes to plan, Maeda will become another significant addition to Gary O’Neil’s squad as Ipswich continue preparing for life back in the Premier League.
