Ipswich striker Delap gaining interest from multiple Premier League clubs - Ipswich Town Transfer Rumours

Newcastle, Man United and Chelsea are all set to battle it out for the services of Ipswich goal scorer Liam Delap.

The 22-year-old son of Premier League cult hero, Rory Delap, has impressed in his debut season in the top flight, bagging 12 goals.

The player has a reported £30m release clause that would become active if Ipswich are relegated, a figure that could attract the attention of Premier League heavyweights, according to The Telegraph.

Chelsea and United are said to be long-term admirers of the striker, with the former reportedly having sent scouts to track the striker. The latter has struggled for goals from their front men and will look to bolster their attacking options this summer. Reports suggest that Delap is the top striker target at Old Trafford, but that is unconfirmed at the moment.

Delap wanted by several Premier League clubs

Newcastle are said to have also tracked Delap’s progress since he was a Man City academy player, but have recently intensified their interest in his signature. While much speculation has surrounded the future of their very own star striker Alexander Isak, Delap is said to be considered another option and not a replacement for Isak.

There is even said to be ramblings of the two playing together. Delap’s arrival could signal the end of another Newcastle striker’s time at the club, though, as 33-year-old veteran goal scorer Calum Wilson’s contract is due to end this summer.

No reports have yet confirmed Wilson’s departure, while the club has an option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

Seen as a leader in the locker room, Eddie Howe is said to value Wilson’s presence at the club. The Magpies could be set for another European campaign should they secure a top five finish so they may well look to go into battle with three strikers in their ranks.

Delap could spark summer bidding war

While still not mathematically confirmed, Ipswich’s relegation is all but certain. His release clause means clubs could acquire him for a reasonable fee in today’s market, and more clubs could be set to enter the fray.

Delap is set to jet off with England for the U21 European Championships this summer, which could see him put himself in the shop window once more. The player could very well have his pick of the litter this transfer window.
