West Ham United: Fans react as Said Benrahma reportedly fails his medical

West Ham have suffered a serious blow in their hopes of securing a deadline day transfer for Brentford forward Said Benrahma.

According to The Mirror’s Darren Lewis on Twitter, the Algerian has failed his medical at London Stadium, thus placing his proposed £25m move to the Hammers in jeopardy. However, West Ham are working until the 5pm deadline to find a possible solution.

The winger had a terrific campaign last season for the Bees as he scored 17 goals and also supplied nine assists, per WhoScored. He often proved a menace for opposition defences as he averaged 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes and three successful dribbles per game.

West Ham’s wide options have been depleted by the loan exit of Felipe Anderson to FC Porto and the permanent sale of academy prospect Grady Diangana to West Brom, which left many Irons fans and some players infuriated. As such, Benrahma would be the ideal addition to bring some quality to the attack.

Understandably, many Irons fans are not best pleased, with one saying: ‘Classic us in the last 10 years’. It is fair to see them react this way, after a summer of failed pursuits for players such as James Tarkowski. Hopefully the east London side can find a way to resolve this deal before the window shuts this evening.
