Aston Villa appear to have put their disastrous start to the Championship season behind them and are excelling somewhat under Dean Smith.
The Villans boss has guided his new side to a four-game unbeaten run, which has included three back-to-back victories before Wednesday night’s emphatic 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest.
However, the Midlanders have been in desperate need of a new centre-back and it appears as though the former Brentford boss has solved it – even though it does read for some interesting news.
According to Laurie Whitwell, Smith will sign James Collins to a five-week deal which is expected to be completed sometime next week.

The Daily Mail journalist has revealed that the former West Ham United defender will then be available for the festive period, which can always have an impact on the way a club’s season will go.
The Verdict:
Collins has been working at Villa’s training ground for the past couple of months in order to try and get a contract, although five-weeks does appear to be rather strange.
However, it could be an excellent piece of business for the Villans, as it means they will have the cover throughout the remainder of the season before the transfer window opens.
The short deal would also suggest that Smith will address the current situation in January, although there could be some room for Collins to extend his stay should he have a positive impact on the side.
